Goodwill Ambassadors
Sport gives us heroes to admire and positive role models who inspire young people to overcome the odds and aim high for success. At the global and national level, UNICEF counts many former Olympians, world champions, athletes and other sports personalities among its Goodwill Ambassadors, including soccer greats David Beckham, Marcel Desailly and Francesca Totti; tennis champion Roger Federer; cricket legend Ravi Shastri and NBA player Pau Gasol.
These champions, and many others, bring to the attention of the world the needs of children both in their own countries and abroad by visiting field projects and emergency programmes. They make direct appeals to those with power to effect change and use their talents and fame to raise funds and advocate for the rights of children.
